Stars is not just a fun, adventure story, its messages resonate with anyone who has ever had a dream.

I had a unique experience of reading Stars out loud to my little sister, age thirteen. As I read it to her and she gave me her feedback, it made me realize that it was not the kind of story everyone would favor. If you don't like coming of age stories, that element of the story for you may not be your favorite. She mentioned a lot that the main character, Matty Prescon, was cringey, and I admit, Matty can be cringey. Matty is an absolutely upbeat and excitable personality. She's always eager and very determined. My little sister is absolutely jaded, at the ripe old age of thirteen, so she found Matty to be as she described 'cringey'.

Now of course, I love Matty. I wrote the character after all. She is the lifeblood of the Mataline Prescon series and I've seen her grow and change so much as I've written her. That said, I could understand why my little sister didn't appreciate her as much as I did.

So that left me wondering, if the book's not to her taste, I shouldn't really make her listen to it, should I? Not everyone likes every book, so what was even the point?

Without spoiling too much, because I want you to read it, Matty, at the beginning of the story, represents the role of a dreamer unheard, hence the dedication of Stars. She is everyone who has ever had a dream and been silent about it. She is the crazy thought in your head that thinks 'I want to be singer' or 'I could make video games'. She is the voice of 'I could design clothes' or 'I want to be a doctor'. Goals that are so large and encompassing they surpass the status of goals and become what I like to call 'dreams'.

Matty is that dreamer at the beginning of the story, and then-she does the unthinkable. She actually tries and pursue that dream, facing trials and tribulations she never could have imagined along the way.

So, that is why I think you, and pretty much everyone, but most especially dreamers, should read Stars! Because the aspects that are somewhat subpar don't outweigh what Matty shows us-which is that we can all live our dreams if we are willing to work unbelievably hard for them.
